Juniper Morton
Biography
Fun Fact: I performed on a cable-access television show when I was in elementary school.
Hey! I’m Juniper and I’m from Nashville, Tennessee. I am currently undecided on my concentration, but I am interested in philosophy, math, law, and earth sciences, as well as many other fields. I’ve always been drawn to a variety of subjects, and I am so excited to explore at Brown to find my calling. I am also excited to join PSP and engage with such a talented, diverse group of people. I hope that this program will further inspire me to pursue what I love, and offer me the support to do so. Being from Music City, I have a deep love for music; I play guitar, have sang in choir for years, and have recently began to record original music! I also play tennis and bowl (very casually) and love crosswords, sudoku, museums, and Thai food.
Research
Over the summer, I have been working with Professor Seth Rockman on a research project about the economic lives and hardships of everyday Americans in the early 19th century. I spent most of my time reading original copies of petitions, digging in online databases to paint fuller pictures of the people I was reading about, and learning how to piece together scraps of 200-year-old information to develop a clear narrative, both through experience and reading the works of other historians. I learned invaluable skills in historical research and writing. I also spent a lot of time in the archives, where I learned that I have a dust allergy!
