Presidential Scholars Program

About

The Presidential Scholars' Program (PSP) is a cohort-based program that provides academic, professional, and social benefits throughout scholars' first and second years at Brown The cohort-based model is designed to provide students with a unique collegiate experience through increased advising and mentorship, as well as a tight-knit community experience within Brown.

Presidential Scholars are selected based on their academic promise, with attention to recruiting economically and demographically diverse groups from a variety of geographic origins and academic interests. PSP creates a community where students will thrive both academically and socially.

The Presidential Scholars Program will provide a foundation for scholars to expand their intellectual curiosity through:

  • Research assistant opportunities with faculty
  • Summer internship placement assistance
  • Peer mentorship and academic support
  • Alumni networking opportunities
  • Professional development workshops developed exclusively for Presidential Scholars

Scholars will also engage in social activities where they will:

  • Become a part of a community of scholars    
  • Learn from and engage with upperclassmen
  • Develop a sense of belonging
  • Explore career pathways and opportunities for life after Brown.

PSP Scholars engage in a wide range of academic pursuits throughout the year and after graduation, including:

  • Concentrations across the university’s diverse array of academic departments
  • Summer internships and research roles at Brown and beyond in scientific labs, national and state archives, nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, and private industry
  • Prestigious national fellowships, such as the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, Goldwater Scholarship, Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program, Marshall Scholarship, Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, Pembroke Fellowship, and the Royce Fellowship
  • Postgraduate opportunities such as medical school, law school, masters and doctoral programs, as well as clinical research
  • Industry jobs in web design and development, data analysis, journalism, teaching, public policy, accounting, consulting and finance, climate change advocacy, and archeology
