Xin Chao!!! I’m Kevin Truong, a first-generation Vietnamese-American born & raised in the heart of Soufend Seattle, Washington! I am planning to concentrate in biomedical engineering, with plans to explore biotechnology entrepreneurship to further develop accessible medical technologies for marginalized populations - immigrants, the disabled women, the queer community, etc. I’m extremely grateful and excited to be in the PSP community since it’ll give me such a strong support system, whether that be my fellow peers and/or the faculty I work with, from the get-go as a FGLI student! Please talk to me about all things film, Pokémon & CRISPR - I can yap for days!
Research
This past summer, I worked in the Tripathi Lab on the Diagnostics & Immunoassay Development Team, led by PhD student Julia R. Miller. In partnership with Quanterix, a biotechnology company specializing in ultrasensitive digital immunoassays, our work focused on identifying, quantifying, and characterizing biomarkers associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Through developing and optimizing bead-based immunoassays, I gained hands-on experience with assay development, fundamental wet lab skills & liquid-handling robotics. One of the most important things I took away was that successful diagnostic research requires both understanding the underlying biology & optimizing already-established biological workflows!
