Biography

Fun Fact: I earned my black belt in Taekwondo when I was 11 years old.

Hello, my name is Lindth Radley Valsote, born and raised in Salem, Massachusetts. I plan on concentrating in mechanical engineering and linguistics because I’m fascinated by designing systems that combine creativity and problem-solving to improve everyday life. I am excited for PSP because of the numerous opportunities it will provide in support of this goal. Outside of academics, I enjoy listening to music, watching foreign films, playing basketball, and traveling.

Research

This summer, I worked with Prof. Scott AnderBois on a project studying language variety in crossword puzzles. Our research examined how clues reflect broader language ideologies, focusing on Mock Spanish and indirect indexicality. I helped compile and analyze a dataset of over 1,000 crossword clues and coding they based on how they signal non-English varieties. Through this work, I gained valuable experience in data analysis, coding patters, and identifying sociolinguistic trends.
